2020 brings another collaboration between Union LA and Jordan Brand with the Air Jordan 4 Union LA Off Noir. Much like the unique construction of 2018, the product of this second partnership is not immune to creative design.
The Air Jordan 4 Union LA Off Noir reps features a mix of materials and colors. The upper is constructed from black, white, and blue mesh, suede, and nylon. Infrared-like elements can be found on the Nike Air heel and at the tip of the wings. These Union Jordans went on sale in August 2020.
After creating one of the best Air Jordan 1s in recent memory, Chris Gibbs and his West Coast boutique UNION LA have been relatively quiet about their next project, taking to social media to simply announce an Air Jordan 4. And now, as today’s leaks suggest, the collaboration is finally coming to fruition, as early glimpses of the silhouette are surfacing.
In terms of design, the pair reportedly emulates the aforementioned AJ1 through color alone, as obvious stitching and vintage pilling have been appropriately avoided. However, the soles add a noticeable touch of yellow, which—while also having a retro aesthetic—matches the finish on the tongue. Elsewhere, the forefoot is swathed in dark navy; the overlays are made of suede loosely reminiscent of denim, and the toe is made of tightly wound mesh. Cages accentuate the vamp and side profile in bright white, working with the front eyestay shapes, whose higher complement favors a dark red, almost burgundy hue. This tone then influences the “AIR JORDAN” patch, which is relatively rare, as it is usually found on the inside of the tongue.
Ahead of its re-release on September 30th, the Air Jordan 4 Retro SP by Union Los Angeles has surfaced in official Nike images. Through small but impactful changes with the folded tongue and reworked forefoot eyelets, Union reinterprets the 1989 Air Jordan 4 with a color palette that embodies the ’80s and ’90s—a theme that runs throughout the footwear and apparel collection. The Union x Air Jordan 4 “Off Noir,” already available exclusively through Union on August 29, is confirmed to release again on October 16 via the SNKRS app and select Jordan retailers worldwide (the Union Jordan 4 “Guava” will not be released again). Get a detailed look at this upcoming drop and stay tuned for the updated store list.
