With the release of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High 85 Black White (2023), Nike is bringing back the original Air Jordan 1 silhouette from 1985. This marks the first time the black and white Air Jordan 1 has returned since the 2014 retro version.
The sneakers feature a familiar black and white color blocking, often found on other traditional Jordan 1 colorways. The upper is made entirely of leather, while a black Nike Air logo sits on the white tongue.

For the fourth consecutive year, Jordan Brand is releasing the Air Jordan 1 Hi ’85 – the most authentic reissue of the 1985 model to date. First introduced in February 2020 as part of the “New Beginnings” pack with the Air Ship, the Air Jordan 1 Hi ’85 has earned its own legendary status as one of the most coveted sneakers each year.
Slated for release in February 2023, the Air Jordan 1 Hi ’85 is a reissue of the original 1985 black and white colorway. It features a black leather overlay over a smooth leather base, with standard nylon tongues and a mesh lining. This colorway was last released in 2014 as one of the earliest releases of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG.
Introduced in 2020 as part of Jumpman’s “New Beginnings” pack, the Air Jordan 1 High ’85 has returned every year since, coordinating with some of Jordan Brand’s most anticipated projects each year. The silhouette’s signature “black/white” aesthetic releases this Wednesday, matching the frequency of Netflix’s movie schedule by seemingly releasing a new version every week.
Featuring a higher ankle collar and wider toe, the silhouette nods to the most authentic iteration of its 1985 construction while also marking the return of the then-popular premium hangtag. Equipped with Air cushioning underfoot, the classic monochromatic ensemble offers a diverse option for a variety of on-foot outfits, combining the crisp white base layer with jet-black smooth leather overlays and branded embellishments.
