The Air Jordan 1 Retro High Rebellionaire, with its clean, black and gray color-blocked upper, is inspired by the original Air Jordan 1 Shadow. Graffiti-style text is printed on the leather construction, covering the upper. A white and gray Air sole at the base completes the design.
The Air Jordan 1 Retro High Rebellionaire reps will be released in March 2022.
As the Air Jordan 1 celebrates its 37th anniversary, the silhouette continues to draw inspiration from the legacy of the number 23. For its “Rebellionaire” offering, Peter Moore’s iconic design recalls a 1985 Nike commercial.
At that time, the NBA did not sanction sneakers like the original Air Jordan, as it predominantly adopted the colors “black” and “university red.” The naturally rebellious Swoosh encouraged number 23 to continue wearing the shoes in-game, even addressing the controversy in a commercial that concluded with the following message: “Luckily, the NBA can’t stop you from wearing them.”
Dressed in a “Black/White/Particle Grey” colorway, reminiscent of the design’s “Shadow” style, the upcoming retro look is a cheeky nod to Michael Jordan’s current billionaire status. The sneaker’s muted colorblocking is accompanied by the handwritten phrase “They Can’t Stop You From Wearing Them.” The all-over pattern appears most prominently on the heel and toe cap, as these panels are rendered in a light shade of gray; the writing elsewhere boasts a barely noticeable repetition of the message. The heels feature a bright red “X,” reminiscent of the 2011 (later 2016) release of the Jordan 1 “Banned.”
