Jordan Brand paid homage to Michael Jackson’s alma mater with the Air Jordan 1 High University Blue. The Air Jordan 1 University Blue colorway holds a prominent place in the history of the Jordan 1. The first UNC-inspired Jordan 1 dates back to 1985 when the Jordan 1 launched. Since then, there have been numerous iterations of the UNC 1, most recently the Jordan 1 Retro High Fearless UNC To Chicago. Jumpman builds on its past and expands on it this week with a new version.
The upper of the Air Jordan 1 Blue reps features a white and black tumbled leather upper with University Blue Durabuck overlays. In a nod to traditional Jordan 1 details, a woven Nike Air label is placed on the tongue and an Air Jordan Wings logo is printed on the ankle. A white midsole and University Blue outsole complete the rejuvenated classic.
The Air Jordan 1 High University Blue was released in March 2021.
In addition to new reveals, Jordan Brand’s Spring 2021 preview also offers better insights into previously confirmed releases. Among the most exciting is the Air Jordan 1 University Blue, expected to launch in the spring and continuing the brand’s homage to UNC, along with the Air Jordan 4 University Blue.
The pair features a familiar colorway, applying the titular hue throughout its genuine leather construction. The toe cap, ankle tab, heel, and eyelet all retain the bright, cool tone, while neutral black and white tones lie beneath. The latter lines the midsection up to the toe cap and then matches it to the nylon tongue; The former, which lies parallel, wraps the instep with flat laces and completes the side profile and collar with the usual branded hardware, Air Jordan 1 Blue.
The Air Jordan 1 University Blue is undoubtedly one of—if not the—most anticipated shoes of the season and has generated quite a stir since its release. And although it was originally expected to release in late February, the colorway has reportedly just been pushed back to March 6th.
Announced alongside the Jumpman’s extensive Spring lineup, the colorway represents the brand’s patented use of the UNC signature. Unlike the “Hyper Royal,” the cool tone is bright and applied over an array of premium suede overlays. Underneath, smooth leather in the color white stands in direct contrast to the collar, Wings insignia, and Swoosh, which are dressed in dark black. The only thing missing here are the obvious nods to the university itself, but that leaves room for some Tar Heels labeled F&F Exclusives and PEs.
