Jordan Brand and Virgil Abloh have teamed up again to release the third silhouette in their collaborative history, the Jordan 4 Retro Off-White Sail (W) for women, which is now available on StockX. After teasing the release of the Off-White 4 with samples at his MCA exhibition and showcasing it in his Off-White FW2020 Women’s show, Virgil Abloh finally delivered what may be the most anticipated release of 2020. The Air Jordan 4 Sail features a full grain leather upper with panels of mesh and translucent materials on the toe and heel of the shoe. From there, light blue accents on the Jumpman on the tongue and the Nike Swoosh on the outsole contrast the sail-colored sneaker. These women’s sneakers launched in July 2020.
Official images of Virgil Abloh’s Off-White Jordan 4 have surfaced, detailing what could be one of the most coveted sneaker releases of the year. Featuring a near-total off-white upper with opaque attachments on the lace eyelets, tongue/upper mesh, and heel tab, this latest iteration of Louis Vuitton’s flagship model adds signature Helvetica text accents on the upper and the bold “AIR” banner above the visible Air unit. The construction of these Off-White Jordans also aligns with Virgil’s two previous Air Jordan drops, with exposed sponge on the sockliner and synthetic overlays harking back to the deconstructed look that the entire “The Ten” was known for. Zip ties and classic Air Jordan hang tags are included, while the OG-style shoe box features enlarged holes. Virgil recently donated a signed pair to be auctioned off for charity, raising over $100,000 for critical organizations supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.
Before the COVID-19 situation, Nike had planned to release a full catalog of imaginative collaborations at the height of the Tokyo Olympics, featuring collaborations by the likes of Virgil Abloh, Yoon Ahn of Ambush, Matthew M. Williams, UNDERCOVER, and sacai. Although this Air Jordan 4 didn’t debut at the brand’s Future Forum runway show in February, it was strongly expected to be available during the scheduled Games. Of course, this year’s Olympics were canceled, but it’s certainly a safe bet that the Jordan release will fall through.
Despite all the controversy he’s encountered in recent months, Virgil Abloh still knows the hype. And while some supporters have since become naysayers, the designer’s latest Air Jordan 4 Retro Off-White Sail (Women’s) rep’s imprint may cause some to reconsider their opinion of the Illinois native.
The collaborative women’s Air Jordan, which launched today on Nike SNKRS ahead of its July 25 release date under “Exclusive Access” for those with standard women’s shoe sizes, didn’t see the launch of Abloh’s original Jordan 1, but it’s garnering attention of a similar magnitude. Perhaps it’s the simple yet alluring tonal “Sail” arrangement or the fact that this pair is only Abloh’s third Jordan Brand silhouette. While one might ponder why NIKE, Inc.’s upcoming Off-White collaboration has generated so much hype, one thing is certain: every detail of the Jordan 4 Off White has been meticulously considered. And that includes the packaging, which consists of “Sail” cable ties, three sets of “SHOELACES”-embossed laces, co-branded tissue paper, and a perforated box à la Off-White Jordan 5 from February.
