Be more of a Raptors fan than Drake after purchasing the Jordan 4 Retro 4 Raptors Drake OVO (2010). This AJ 4 features a black upper with red and purple accents, a purple midsole, and a black sole with red accents.
Although this year’s NBA Finals features a captivating clash between the seemingly ubiquitous Golden State Warriors and the mighty Toronto Raptors, one of the series’ main storylines revolves around the antics of the Raptors’ “global ambassador,” Drake. Now, the god himself is back in the spotlight, as a version of the Air Jordan 4 “Raptors” featuring his signature on the tongue recently received a shock drop on Nike SNKRS. The black, red, and purple colorway first released in August 2018 and—in true Aubrey Graham fashion—was surrounded by enough speculation to turn even the most devoted sneaker lover’s head. Reportedly, Drake and Jordan Brand couldn’t come to an agreement on the rapper’s contract extension at the time, and rumors swirled that he would be moving to Adidas—rumors that Drake himself helped to spread. This “Raptors” makeup was originally supposed to feature the aforementioned signature tongue tag when it first released, but due to the dispute between the sneaker brand and the superstar, it was replaced with a tonal leather patch. Now, with the Raptors in the Finals and all seemingly well between The Boy and JB, this oft-seen AJ4 is finally seeing the light of day. If you’re a Raptors fan, a Drake lover, or just want to own a shoe with a story, the shoes are unfortunately sold out on Nike SNKRS, but you can be sure to check back for more.
For a long time, rumors swirled that the Air Jordan 4 NRG Raptors would release sometime in April. With less than a week to go until April, that no longer seems to be the case. The last rumored release date now appears to be May 12th, so those patiently waiting will have to wait a few more weeks.
This new colorway of the Air Jordan 4 utilizes an original Toronto Raptors color scheme. The shoe is basically covered in a black suede upper for a premium look and contrasting court purple, with red accents throughout to give it the Raptors theme. The use of a suede tongue tag, fully embossed with an embossed Jumpman, gives the shoe’s design a slightly more luxurious feel. A speckled midsole mixed with a black and red rubber outsole completes the design.
