Jordan Brand paid homage to Michael Jackson’s alma mater with the Air Jordan 4 University Blue. The “University Blue” colorway bears a strong resemblance to the ultra-rare Air Jordan 4 UNC PE, which was given to Tarheel student-athletes in 2019.
The Air Jordan 4 University Blue features a University Blue suede upper with mesh on the sidewall and tongue. Similar to past OG Jordan 4 colorways, the eyelets, heel tab, and portions of the midsole are finished in speckled cement gray. Black accents appear on the wing eyelets, sole, and Jumpman logo on the heel tab. Two woven labels are sewn on the tongue; one is the classic woven Jumpman label; the other is a Team Jordan jock tag. A black, white, and Tech Grey sole with a clear Air unit completes the design.
The Air Jordan 4 University Blue was released in April 2021.
For obvious reasons, the Air Jordan 4 Blue “University Blue” is easily one of the brand’s most anticipated releases of the year. Following not far behind the Air Jordan 1, the silhouette celebrates MJ’s alma mater with a much fuller representation of the UNC color.
In fact, it almost entirely covers the upper. The premium suede panels that wrap the toe, heel, and profile are all dyed a bright, cool hue, while both the mesh and laces are exactly to spec. And like the neutral-colored Jumpman on the heel, the tongue branding also deviates from the originals, opting for a white-on-grey label that ends with a jersey jock tag on the lateral side. Elsewhere, black eyelets and midsole trim add contrast alongside a series of cement-colored, paint-flecked fasteners.
The Air Jordan 4 “University Blue” has been officially unveiled as part of Jordan Brand’s Summer 2021 Retro collection and will finally release tomorrow, April 28th.
Another offering from NIKE, Inc., dressed in a color palette reminiscent of the University of North Carolina, the upcoming pair offers a premium, heritage-oriented style. Soft suede makes up the majority of the shoe’s upper, while mesh components are used on the tongue and profiles. Ankle tabs, Jumpman logo heel overlays, and midsole details veer away from the “University Blue” vibe in favor of a cement-like “Tech Grey” reminiscent of the first colorways of the fourth Air Jordan. The remaining accents mostly consist of strong “black” contrast, but labels on the tongue add a scarlet hue to the sneaker via a jersey-like label.
